Maroon BellsPosted by B. Thomas (Arlington, Texas, United States) on 29 April 2009 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio. Maroon Bells located in Gunnison and White River National Forests. This shot is almost a mirror image both horizontally and vertically. ;-) The twin peaks of Maroon Bells are perhaps Colorado's most recognizable scene, and the surrounding wilderness is one of the most popular, both for good reason. When it comes to sheer mountain splendor, few areas compare with the Elk Mountains and Maroon Bells - Snowmass Wilderness. Maroon Lake with the Bells reflection is probably one of the most photographed areas in Colorado. It's hard to come up with anything other than the typical shot. You usually see it in the fall with yellow aspen leaves or in the summer when the trees are green. This shot was in October after the leaves had fallen, and late in the evening as the last light touched the peaks. The crowds are gone, and it is quiet.

@mats: Thanks. @Lylou & Roland: Thank you. Hidalgo from Herunen, FinlandHey, how nice photo. I love that very strong reflection in the still water. Great shot. 29 Apr 2009 5:48am @Hidalgo: Thanks for the comment! Bill Brown from California, United StatesGorgeous image! The calm water makes it hard to tell you are looking at a reflection. 29 Apr 2009 5:53am @Bill Brown: Yes, it was that stillness in the mountains that settles just before dark. Thanks. Veronique from Sarrouilles, FranceVery nice and peacefull feeling ! (I would have straighten it a bit) 29 Apr 2009 6:55am @Veronique: Thanks. Maybe you are right. The lake curves around where you cannot see it all, and it made it look a little off to me too. I turned it a tad, but I took a straight line from the tip of the biggest tree to the tip of the reflection of the same tree and used that as my guide. It was very peaceful. JanW from Rotterdam, NetherlandsThis picture on my screen and the first coffee of the day, what a wake up. Beautiful!! 29 Apr 2009 7:20am @JanW: Wow, thanks.
