The Other HalfPosted by B. Thomas (Arlington, Texas, United States) on 24 June 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. The typical shot of Half Dome is from Tunnel View, Glacier Point, or the valley. This is the "other side" of Half Dome from Olmsted Point. We hiked over a large rock dome in the blazing July afternoon sun for this shot of Half Dome. Too bad, but one can't be everywhere early in the morning, or at sunset.

Hidalgo from Herunen, FinlandWow. I love the place and Your photo. Great place to hike, sigh. 24 Jun 2009 7:37am @Hidalgo: Thanks. It was a wonderful hiking place. Bill Jennings from (Bay Area Northern Calif), United StatesLove it. BTW, I'm heading to Montana for a triple D shoot for babies in July - is that when you're going? 24 Jun 2009 7:47am @Bill Jennings: Thanks. Yes, I'm going in July, but not for Babies. My last day at Triple D is the 16th. We will head to Glacier the day your shoot starts. Are you staying in town? We might cross paths the evening of the 16th. Isn't Debbie doing the Babies also? JanW from NetherlandsGreat shot, beautiful PoV. It seems to me that you must feel very small standing there. 24 Jun 2009 8:06am @JanW: Thanks, Jan. You are right. A photo does not do justice to the area. @zOOm: It was a very rocky area with large domes that just didn't have many trees. It was also high and away from the streams and lakes. It was very hot and dry up there that day. Eric Cousineau from Sherwood Park, CanadaDefinitely worth the hike Barbara! Well done! ;-) 24 Jun 2009 11:41am @Eric Cousineau: Oh, yes, it was worth it. Thanks. Evelyn from United StatesI like the colors in this one - various shades of blue and brown with a little bit of dark green thrown in for contrast. 24 Jun 2009 1:36pm @Evelyn: Hey, Evelyn. Thanks for checking the blog. Timothy Kiefer from Camden, NY, United StatesWow! This one is so amazing it almost looks computer generated. Very, very nice. 24 Jun 2009 3:00pm @Timothy Kiefer: Thanks a lot. It was an amazing place, and everything was stark with the high, bright sun. Steven from Chicagoland, United StatesA beautiful panoramic shot that you have captured here! Who knew such desolation could be so beautiful? It looks like it may have been quite a peaceful area. 24 Jun 2009 5:20pm @Steven: Thanks, Steven. Yes, it was very peaceful there. Once we left the crowded valley, there were not many folks around. @Loner: Thank you Sonja. Lambspun from Madison, Maine, United StatesWow B. Thomas...looks like the exact same tree in my photo of Yosemite's Half Dome. Check it out :) Awesome shot! 24 Jun 2009 7:53pm @Lambspun: That's cool. I put them side by side. You had more of that cracked dome area and seemed to be at a higher vantage point. We went down a trail a ways and it seemed like it was a little different view of Half Dome. Thanks! @john4jack: Thanks, Jack. Lee from Fort Frances Ontario, CanadaWonderful. Just beautiful. Well worth the hike in the hot July heat. Thank you for sharing. 25 Jun 2009 3:08am @Lee: Thanks, Lee. BTW, I'm heading for Canada in July!! Well, really to Glacier Nat. Park, but hope to make it up to Waterton for at least a day. sawsengee from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysiasplendid view, the composition is lovely especially with the dead tree on the right punctuating the skyline in the foreground 25 Jun 2009 5:10am @sawsengee: Thanks. I'm always looking for an interesting tree. "Punctuating the skyline" - I like that. Cool. Tracy from La Selva Beach, United StatesAnother great and not often seen view of this icon! This really gives a feeling of the rugged area around the valley. Certainly a place that I would like to visit! 25 Jun 2009 12:52pm @Tracy: Hey, Tracy, thanks. If you do go (when...), do get away from the main valley because there are some wonderful less traveled areas out there. Bethany from Michigan, United StatesBut well worth the hike for an alternate view! 26 Jun 2009 2:37am @Bethany: Oh, yes, well worth the hot hike! ;-) @Hjulbentamannen: Thanks. Also thanks for checking out my other shots and your comments on them. |
