The Sound of Music

In the 1960s, the movie The Sound of Music was filmed in and around Salzburg. The movie was based on the true story of Maria von Trapp, a Salzburg-based nun who took up with an aristocratic family and fled German occupation. Although the film is not particularly popular among Austrians, the town draws many visitors who wish to visit the filming locations.
My friends and I had seen the movie many times, but we were not interested in one of the tours to the film's locations. However, when the temperature hit an unusual 109 degrees, we decided to take a tour just so we could spend the day in an air conditioned bus.
Leopoldskron Palace was one of the most important locations for the film: This rear view was used for the family home. They drank lemonade with the baroness on the terrace. Maria and the baron danced on the balcony during the ball scene, and the children fell into the lake.
The tour turned out to be fun, and we spent a delightful day visiting many places we would not have seen otherwise. Oh, and we stayed cool on the bus between stops.

Beautifully captured Barbara! Loved the movie and starred in the stage production as Georg Von Trapp in high school....brings back wonderful memories! Thanks for sharing! ;-)

Lovely shot and great memories...thanks for pointing me to it! We never saw this palace but we do still have photos of us (4 girls in our 20s at the time) jumping two footed up and down the steps in a park just like they do in do-reh-me..and running round the statue in the same park! Thanks for the memories!

@MrsAmber: Glad you like it. This was a good ways out of town as were several other of the movie locations. The tour really was a lot of fun and so much better than we thought it would be. I'd do it again for sure!!
