Hiking Out

Posted by

More of Santa Elena Canyon, Big Bend National Park. It's getting late in the day, and time to hike back out of the canyon.

J.R. from Ginowan, Japan

Awesome, couldn't you get a helicopter to drop in and take you out? LOL!

1 Aug 2011 8:32am

@J.R.: Thanks, J.R. Or, better yet, a helicopter to deliver a pizza before we hike out on our own. ;-)

Ronnie 2¢ from Atlantic Shores, United Kingdom

You have caught such a sense of atmosphere in this series . . something more than just the landscape.

@Ronnie 2¢: Thanks, Ronnie.

Judy aka L@dybug from Brooksville, FL, United States

This is wonderful ... and have a human in the frame really shows the scale of things.

1 Aug 2011 11:29am

@Judy aka L@dybug: Thanks, Judy. He does give a sense of scale to the scene.

Stefan from Thiersee, Austria

Wonderful mystic place, love it!

1 Aug 2011 12:52pm

@Stefan: It really is a wonderful place. Thanks, Stefan.

Eric Cousineau from Sherwood Park, Canada

The variations in light really accentuate the texture of the rocky terrain! A glorious capture Barbara! ;-)

@Eric Cousineau: Thanks, Eric.

Sandy Weston from Madison, Maine, United States

This IS a very beautiful place! The light and shadows make it feel special :) That small river may have cut down through this rock years ago.....

1 Aug 2011 1:45pm

@Sandy Weston: It's hard to believe the power of water to cut through rock like this, isn't it.

Tracy from La Selva Beach, United States

Wow! this looks like such an amazing place! (and quite a hike, too!)

1 Aug 2011 2:43pm

@Tracy: Yes, it is an amazing place, Tracy. It really was a pretty hike, with some steps cut into the hard places.

LauraS from Chico, United States

Nice to see how BIG it is with the person in frame to show relative size. Magnificent place. What a great trail!

1 Aug 2011 4:35pm

@LauraS: Thanks, Laura. It is a great trail, and really made us feel small.

Gary from Cochise County, United States

Sold! this moves to the top of my list. I can't wait to go. Any suggestion on the best time of year to visit?

1 Aug 2011 11:15pm

@Gary: A lot of people like Big Bend in the winter, but I think March is the best time to go. The weather is nice with warm days, and cool nights, but it is not really too hot yet. It really is an interesting place.

DarkElf from Perth, Australia

wonderful capture! i like this composition - it seems very balanced...

@DarkElf: Thanks!

Steven from Chicagoland, United States

Beautiful light captured here! And what a grand scale after seeing the person in red!

2 Aug 2011 1:02am

@Steven: Thanks, Steven. There were not any other people around to give it scale so we had to split up for some shots.

Bill Brown from California, United States

There's someone there, so tiny like a grain of sand in this huge rocky basket...What a super perspective!
