Horses running as alpenglow hits Wyoming's Mt. Moran. Morning mist is rising from the Snake River. It was definitely worth getting out in the dark and waiting in the cold for this moment in August.

I don't know why...but looking at these horses and imagining you waiting in the is the essence of freedom! YOU must have witnessed some special moments!

29 Dec 2011 7:51am

@Japanalia: Yes, Gabriela, we really did. It was still dark when we got out there. We thought the horses would be running, but the mist on the river and the first light hitting the mountains was as added surprise. There were also elk, bison, and some geese in the distance. Even the cold air was nice after the three months of heat we had left in Texas.

What an exciting image, with the tree horses running across, and the steamy river behind. Looks mystical on several levels. Frame and hang this one Barbara.

Beautiful composition with so many eye-catching elements, including the sunrise on the mountains, mist and the free-running spirit of the horses. A cold morning in August? Ouch!

29 Dec 2011 9:33pm

@Steven: Yes, cold early before the sun comes up. It seemed even colder to us since we had just left Texas and three sweltering months of over 100 degree days.
