Red Butte

Posted by
B. Thomas (Arlington, Texas, United States) on 5 March 2012 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Beautiful country along the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway between Cooke City, Montana and Cody, Wyoming. After crossing Dead Indian Pass the road descends sharply to the dry east side, and passes this brilliant red butte.

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

Wow, that is a beautiful red. As you've probably guessed, I enjoy the red rocks a lot.

I've followed many a road that Chief Joseph traveled near and I can understand how his heart was broken to be taken from the land that he loved. I visited his burial site in Eastern Washington, which is in a small run down graveyard in eastern Washington. He was a great leader of the Nez Perce tribe and left an lasting legacy. You captured this beautiful landscape perfectly, the chief would be smiling.

@Jerry: Thanks, Jerry. I love some of the lessons Chief Joseph taught us about nature - his lasting legacy, as you said. I'm sad to hear about his burial site being run down.
