Walking the Wash

Posted by
B. Thomas (Arlington, Texas, United States) on 2 April 2012 in Landscape & Rural.

Bisti Wilderness: After a few miles walk into the wilderness, following the wash, the road moves out of sight and the surreal formations are all around.

Navigation can be difficult, as there are no major landmarks in the badlands, and little change in elevation, though there are several groups of distinctive orange-colored mounds in amongst the generally yellow-brown hills, that do help when route-finding.

Road Trip #11

What a strange sensation this must be - does anything live there ? Snakes, I suppose !

2 Apr 2012 8:38am

@Ronnie 2¢: I don't think even snakes are there. We did see one very small lizard, but that was it.

Incredible landscape images, Barbara ... this reminds me of the Desert of Maine, in that it seems so out of place in NM.
