Blue Mood

Wild Texas Bluebonnets. After the drought and record heat last summer, we were happy that the spring rains brought outstanding bluebonnets this year.

For awhile I thought you were getting lucky at finding bluebonnets, but this is incredible. I recently met a guy in the Rain Forest and he was from Texas so I commented on your bluebonnet photo's and he replied they were nothing special. After seeing your series I tend to disagree with him. Maybe he lives where there are not many bluebonnets?

23 Apr 2012 5:12am

@Jerry: Some years are not as good as others, and some areas of the state do not have as many. They are often seen along the side of highways in our (Dallas/Ft. Worth) area, but getting off in the country is much better. These shots were taken near Ennis in East Texas which has the "Bluebonnet Trail" and festival each year and is one of the best places to see them. There are some areas in the Hill Country area that are usually very good too. A lot of it depends on weather conditions. One year we went down to hill country and there were very few This year they were awesome here. We were lucky this year, and also knew where to look.

Outstanding comp - especially with the patch of bluebonnets in the foreground!

23 Apr 2012 2:08pm

@Barbara Kile: Thanks, Barbara. Most of the flowers outside of the fence had been trampled by people standing at the fence for photos, so I had to search for that little foreground patch. Did you make it out there, or to Clarks Garden?

Haven't had much chance to comment but I have been enjoying - nay - LOVING these for the past many days - the longhorn resting amidst the bluebonnets is my fav, True Texas!! But ALL of these are just magnificent and I am SO glad that the wildflowers have returned in force this year. Of course my favs, the Indian Paintbrushes always add such a great touch to these beautiful members of the lupine family - Texas State Flower - The Texas Bluebonnet. Thank you for your continued wishes and notes..we are good...a consult with the Dr tomorrow for ....will let you what the schedule is after that ...Love and thanks..(ps I am doing good) - DJ
