Curly from South Shields, United Kingdom

Great shot, I'm starting to get the feeling that they're pretty comfortable with humans around them.

16 Jul 2012 11:22am

@Curly: Some more than others. As long as no one gets too close or makes noise or movement they are tolerant. In the fall during the rut it's a different story.

Eric Cousineau from Sherwood Park, Canada

She stands out nicely in the sunlight. I love how you've captured the pointing hoofs as if she is prancing across the street.

Love the way the light is on her. Is this early morning?

17 Jul 2012 12:16pm

@Joyce: It was late in the evening, and she had been resting in a sunny meadow. Another elk came out of the trees across the road in the shade of the mountain so she headed over there.
