Fox Trot

Posted by
B. Thomas (Arlington, Texas, United States) on 7 October 2012 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

Last summer during the drought and heat wave here in Texas, a family of gray foxes began to come into our yard to drink out of the water pan we kept for birds and squirrels. They were very thin and hungry so we helped them out through the summer with some food and water. Now, over a year later, they are thriving, and come by from time to time for a snack and a treat. They LOVE grapes, and we love watching them hunt in the field behind our house.

Needless to say, we've not had any problems with rodents.

They have beautiful fur coats! I'm thinking.....collars!
And I like how you timed your shot with each fox in a different position...something like a "domino-effect".

They look sleek and healthy. The wild grapes here are called fox grapes. I wonder if that's how they got there name?

7 Oct 2012 12:56pm

@Donna: That's interesting. I wonder too.

Ah the lovely foxes are back! Yesterday as I sat at my computer, a lovely red fox walked up my driveway. By the time I got my camera, it had disappeared.

Great capture, Barbara. I love how you got each one doing something different. Did you know that grapes are toxic to dogs? I hope that is not true for foxes.

7 Oct 2012 11:11pm

@Julie L. Brown: Thanks. I liked how they formed a triangle. Several people have mentioned that about grapes and dogs to us, but we read that they liked grapes before we ever thought to feed them grapes. They will do anything for grapes, and will almost catch them in the air if we toss them. They really love green or red grapes and get so happy when we give them a few.
