Gray Foxes

The foxes observe us occasionally, but as long as we make no sudden, threatening moves or noise and remain at a safe distance, they will usually go about the business of searching for food. Spending time outside with the foxes or watching them from the windows is one of our favorite things to do.

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

Is that one of the babies? Did she bring it to introduce it to you? I think they do it when they come to trust people.

19 May 2013 6:39am

@Japanalia: They didn't bring the babies around last year until they were almost full size. That is the female behind him, smaller, and a little way off.

Jypyä Pop from Turku, Finland

They are definitely really fun to watch. Foxes are in good condition and alert appearance. You have some great neighbors.

This is like momma fox bringing her young one out to introduce it to you all. I have never enjoyed a series more than this one. I feel blessed to have the privilege of viewing these beautiful foxes. Thanks for sharing these with us.

19 May 2013 8:45pm

@Viewfinder: Thanks so much. Glad you are enjoying the series. I plan to do another one later this summer or maybe in the fall.

Josep from Barcelona, Spain

Absolutely amazing shot! Very, very beautiful shot of these wonderful foxes. I love the light and the selective focus on the first fox.

19 May 2013 9:00pm

@Josep: Thanks, Josep. We don't often get them in good light, as they mostly come in the evening or at night.

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

That little one is learning the ropes. Grapes will soon be one of its favorite things. ;-)

we saw a coyote in the wild today

20 May 2013 12:06am

@john4jack: Cool. We see them sometimes around here. We don't much want them around as they could harm the foxes or our cats, although the cats are only allowed out in the daytime.

Elaine Hancock from Rockville, United States

This is just wonderful! The mother seems to have a trusting face. A gorgeous portrait!

20 May 2013 12:39am

@Elaine Hancock: Thanks. The one in front is actually the male, Nacho.

@Basile Pesso: Thanks. We don't often get to see them in good light, as they usually come in the evening or night.

Julie L. Brown from Indianapolis, Indiana, United States

they have such curious expressions.

StarCosmosBleu from Bedford.Qc, Canada

Foxes around here are very nervous and pass very fast..plus they mostly have a red fur....nice shot..

22 May 2013 6:01pm

@StarCosmosBleu: The red fox is larger and has pretty black legs. These gray foxes are quite a bit smaller.
