Most of the foxes we see have brown eyes, but this little mother fox, Bandi (Bandita), has blue eyes.
In Texas, the breeding season begins in December and continues on into March. Three to six pups are born in April or May. At first they are blind and helpless, but they grow rapidly and soon leave the home nest. Then they seek shelter in rock piles, under rocks, in piles of brush, or in other sites that offer concealment and protection.

Jypyä Pop from Turku, Finland

Unique and beautiful. Blue eyes are probably quite rare foxes.

20 May 2013 5:29am

@Jypyä Pop: Of all the foxes we have seen over the past couple of years, she is the only one with blue eyes. All the others are dark brown.

Elaine Hancock from Rockville, United States

She is beautiful! Gorgeous blue eyes. I don't think I have ever seen a gray fox. There is a fox den near a path in the woods near where I live and I have seen them occasionally over the years. They are red fox.

21 May 2013 12:41am

@Elaine Hancock: They are smaller than the red fox, and just have some red "trim" on their coats.

Phil Morris from Saskatoon, Toronto, Canada

A wonderful portrait, she has beautiful eyes. They are protected in the U.S.? I did not feel she is afraid.

21 May 2013 9:10am

@gerard1948: Not protected that I know of, but I don't think anyone bothers them around here. They keep rodents away, after all. ;-)

Julie L. Brown from Indianapolis, Indiana, United States

Blue eyes-that is interesting. I wonder if any of her kits have blue eyes.

21 May 2013 9:49am

@Julie L. Brown: I wish I could answer that question. Maybe I'll find out this summer.
