Little Stinker

Posted by
B. Thomas (Arlington, Texas, United States) on 20 August 2013 in Animal & Insect.

In the Spirit of Silly Tuesday...
A very small baby skunk came for a visit one night. I got off a quick flash shot and headed inside, just in case his mom was nearby. I did not want to encounter a BIG stinker in the dark. ;-)

Yes, the adults can spray and it really smells bad. This baby was too young to spray.

Such a profound offputting thing is skunk. It's as though Mother Nature created a scent for it, but the phone rang or something and she got distracted while the odor kept amping. Don't you think it's just a overkill? Poor little guys. Sometimes stinks for a mile or so. Lucky this year so far not in our development. Happy Stinky Tues. Barbara!

You were quite close to this little stinker!! We've been experiencing a lot of skunks in the neighborhood lately. Doesn't help when you want to keep the windows open. :-)

A cute little one. When I was a kid, our dog cornered a skunk under a chicken house. He went in after it, the skunk sprayed, and I then found out what was under there. The dog backed out quickly and started rubbing his face on the grass while I ran for some air I could breathe. Stinkers indeed!

@Steve Rice: I think that was a really close call for you. Poor dog, but it makes for a funny story.

A spray would certainly degrade your backyard enjoyment!
