Rodeo - Bulldogging

Posted by
B. Thomas (Arlington, Texas, United States) on 15 February 2014 in Lifestyle & Culture.

Steer wrestling, also known as bulldogging, is a rodeo event in which a horse-mounted rider chases a steer, drops from the horse to the steer, then wrestles the steer to the ground by twisting its horns.

The other rider is there he help guide the steer.

Like all other rodeo events, steer wrestling is under fire by animal rights advocates. Modern rodeos in the United States are closely regulated and have responded to accusations of animal cruelty by instituting a number of rules to guide how rodeo animals are to be managed.

*A 200mm lens was not quite enough for the distance, low light, & action of this rodeo series.

A great shot of this tough cowboy wrestling that steer. I was never tough enough to do that. I did ride a young steer around the barnyard once. He ran next to the fence and ripped my bluejeans. :-)
