Goodbye, Little Aspen

Goodbye, little Aspen
Aspen, who had never been sick in his eleven years with us, had a serious problem. We rushed him to the emergency pet hospital. X-rays showed an intestinal blockage. They did surgery and it was critical that internal stitches hold. After 3 days they suggested we bring him home, hoping he would eat. He was so happy to be home.

Early the next morning it started raining. Aspen got up and went to the window and sat there gazing out. I watched him awhile, and reached for my phone. It was still dark in the room and I wondered if it would be my last photo of him. The stitches didn't hold and we rushed him back to the hospital.

We finally had to make the hard decision, — not what we wanted, but what would be best for him. He has been in many photos on this blog. Aspen was the sweetest, funniest little kitty with such a big personality, and the loudest purr I've ever heard. I miss him SO much!

Oh, I'm so sorry for you... There's so much love in this goodbye, beauty also... Our pets are irreplaceable and their love remains forever with us. I would want to share that your words move me so much because what you expresse here revealed the trouble that I had buried deep inside me since the departure of my beloved cat after 19 years spend together in late November... So thank you, thank you for that... Above all don't do like me, allow yourself to express your sadness... Thanks for your sharing... I honor it...

@Harmonia: Thank you. Nineteen, or even twelve years is a long time for a cat, but it's not long enough!

This is heart-wrenching, Barbara. Those of us who love our little ones know the sadness and loss that you are experiencing. Time will ease it, but it never goes away completely.

Barbara - my thoughts are with you....
The only thing to comfort you - is to think - Aspen was spared suffering ---- I have learned that by experiencing the same situation (too often).
Love Monika
