It's A Girl!

Posted by
B. Thomas (Arlington, Texas, United States) on 16 August 2017 in Animal & Insect.

This red deer fawn, was just hours old. The mother had moved away to find food, and the ranch manager picked her up to estimate her weight, determine her sex, check her health, and tag her ear with ID information.
What a difference just a few hours made between this several hours old fawn, and the minutes old one in in Sunday and Monday's post. She could already stand and walk, even though her legs were a little wobbly.

He is sitting her back down to wait for the return of her mother.

A fine picture of this very young fawn and the fellow checking her out. We have a mother and fawn come by our place to eat the green grass from our watering.

Great capture of this fawn!! I love its white speckles. I am surprised the fawn didn't run away when the man approached it.

16 Aug 2017 11:50pm

@Steven: The mother leaves them bedded down and hidden from view. They are too wobbly to run for awhile, and I guess she tells it to stay put.
