Yesterday: If you guessed it was Rocky in disguise you were wrong. ;-)))

Opossums are some of the most misunderstood animals in the Americas. They’re often thought of as dimwitted, dirty creatures whose most impressive trick is acting like roadkill. The truth is just the opposite: Opossums are smarter, cleaner, and more beneficial to humans than many of their woodland neighbors.

Here in Texas most people call them possums. This one visits our yard almost daily. This was the first image. After he climbed up the fence he went up the trees in the image yesterday.

Wow I was right then !!
Wonder what Nacho's reaction would have been had he encountered one !!!

27 Mar 2019 5:19am

@Devi: Nacho and the other foxes encountered them often. They usually just ignore each other. Rocky watches the possum from the window, but no encounter allowed.

Ha ha ha ! I was reminded of Snoopy imagining he is an eagle :))) A pet for Rocky :))

You are quick with your camera, and seem to have lots of wild critters.

27 Mar 2019 9:37am

@Anita: I had to be quick because as you can see in yesterday's post, he was soon far up in a tree. :-) We live in a city, but there is an undeveloped area with a field, thick woods and a creek right behind our house so we have a little of the best of both worlds.

Marjolein from Enkhuizen, Netherlands

How wonderful that he comes into your garden every day.
I don't know this animal, so I looked up the description in Wikipedia.
I learned something again.

He looks in a hurry. You haven't tossed a grape over there have you? :)

27 Mar 2019 11:07am

@grouser: He was running away from me, but he sneaks grapes at night if they are left out there.

These nasty things would visit our yard often in the past but more rarely these days. There are coyotes in the vacant lot behind our house. Maybe they do possum control.

27 Mar 2019 11:08pm

@Steve Rice: We have coyotes in the field and woods too, but the possum seems to stay close to the houses. I think he's kind of cute, but they do look sort of like big rats. ;-)

Rose from United States

My nephew and his wife have one that lives in their green house part of the time...they feed it.

28 Mar 2019 12:24am

@Rose: That's funny. We don't really feed this one, but he sometimes gets grapes that we leave out for the foxes, and spilled bird food from the feeders.
