Big Waves

Posted by
B. Thomas (Arlington, Texas, United States) on 17 May 2019 in Landscape & Rural.

One of the first Olympic National Park beaches we visited on our April trip was Rialto Beach. We had to climb over huge logs to reach the beach where we were amazed by the great waves thundering to the shore.

Rialto is a wild beach with its own rules. The Park Service provides the usual and obligatory warnings about not playing in the surf in the presence of driftwood logs, and, while on the beach, possessing some awareness concerning tides so that one does not get trapped between headlands by an incoming tide. These warnings should be taken seriously.

How do you say the foam in the lower left of the picture in English ?
It's 波の華 literally flower of wave in Japanese. It is seen in winter in Japan, not in April.
Great view !!

@Hiro: It's just call sea foam as far as I know. Flower of wave is much prettier.

A gorgeous capture of the wild surf. On those winter hikes, that I mentioned before, in some places you couldn't go around the headlands. The only option was to find a way up and over. Not an easy task.
