World Heritage Site

Posted by

The Hoh Rain Forest is one of four rain forests on the Olympic Peninsula. However, it is the only one that has been awarded the distinction of being a World Heritage Site and a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. Its unique ecosystem has remained unchanged for thousands of years and it is now the most carefully preserved rain forest in the northern hemisphere.

A softly arresting timeless capture. So ancient looking. And it is. Those pale green fern like plants at the feet of the grand old trees really punctuate the frame don't they? I want to step in and follow that sunlit spot that looks like a path, or was. It is maybe a portal to another dimension. :-D

I like your photo's Barbara, they are clean, well composed, realistic. I wish people could experience the peaceful and quite solitude of a rain forest, it touches your soul and makes you wonder about life. I'm glad also that you haven't succumb to these unrealistic looking overly saturated photo's that the judges's seem to promote on this site. In my opinion there is a place for those but only in rare circumstances. Looking forward to more of your NW adventure

@Jerry: Thanks. Being in the rain or heavy overcast skies created enough saturation - both for the photos, and for our clothes. ;-) Peaceful and quite solitude describes it so well as we were the only ones there that morning. It was an amazing place.
