Yummy Plants

Posted by

Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada
This bull elk was munching on some kind of white puff ball plants on a steep hillside. I tired to find out what the plant was since we saw it in several locations around Jasper NP, but no luck identifying it.

It looks like it has enough food. And more tastes. Outdoor life gives you a good appetite.

A gorgeous portrait of this beautiful elk. The plants almost look like cotton. I looked around and found Scheuchzer's cottongrass. Not sure if that is it.

Perhaps its a seasonal plant but at any rate you are so lucky to capture this big guy, wow! he is really something. Out west this is called a 5 point, other places they count both sides.

Thanks, Elaine. I looked up Scheuchzer's cottongrass and it does look like this plant the elk was eating.
