Variegated Fritillary

Euptoieta claudia, the variegated fritillary, is a North and South American butterfly in the family Nymphalidae.

Variegated fritillaries are regular visitors to open sunny areas such as fields, pastures, and along the edges of roads where females seek nutritious plants for their young.

The field behind my house is where I found this beauty.
