The water was all frozen solid so this Jay was eating snow from the bird bath.

A beautiful portrait! I have never seen them eat snow before. He is a smart fellow. I am sure that it was such a shock for the birds to have such cold temperatures and snow. I have always considered a bird bath heater but then I would have to have an electric cord extended across the yard so I haven't done it. I suppose I could just have a bird bath on my patio just in winter.

@Elaine Hancock: I have thought about a heater too, but also don't want a cord. Really, we just don't have that much freezing weather, but when we do it's a shock to birds and wildlife. (...and us.)
