Juvenile Eastern Bluebird

Posted by
B. Thomas (Arlington, Texas, United States) on 7 October 2024 in Animal & Insect.

The eastern bluebird is a small North American migratory thrush found in woodlands, farmlands, and even backyards. The bright-blue breeding plumage of the male, easily observed on a wire or open perch, makes this species a favorite of birders. The juvenile is heavily spotted, and has traces of blue above. This one and the rest of the family were hanging around our bird bath for a few weeks.

A beautiful picture of this young bluebird! I love watching the bluebirds. This past spring I had a pair who were trying to set up house in one of my nest boxes but the House Sparrows kicked them out and took over.
